Hey, look -- a 10" record!

Along with the lost art of vinyl, Psychomania are also reviving the ancient practice of not taking yourself too seriously while not ending up a novelty act, either. A tough precipice to walk, and, despite the occasional stumble into joke-song territory ("After Doctor X" springs to mind...), Psychomania pull it off.

This EP, loosely-defined, is a rockabilly affair which includes elements of punk and 70's glam rock. "Bike Boys Go Ape" has its feet planted firmly in the 50's, but the standout track "Elvis in Wonderland" incorporates a very Bowie middle-eight and some Mexican brass -- though the song's about Brazil. Then again, who gives a shit? It sounds ace anyways. "After Doctor X" features a good send-up of 007's nemesis, Ernst Blofeldt, but it depends too much on its humour for its own good.

All in all, a well-arranged and evocative effort, and tunes that hold your attention well enough to keep the band from being just a novelty.
