Taster

Crazy Ass

Review by Darren Kerr

45-second excerpt from "Deep in the Brain" (various formats)

I can't get the picture of Megadeth's Dave Mustaine singing for Styx out of my head. It's wrong, I know, but that's what Taster sounds like to me -- especially on "Deep in the Brain" and "North Van" ("Party at the canyon tonight in Lynn Valley...") -- even though there's not a keyboard in sight.

This is funky, guitar-heavy rock which, given a chance, could make inroads on "rock" radio. The songs are catchy and have enough bite for me to recommend this CD to lovers of mainstream rock. Songs like "Emulating Spiders" have some very nice harmonies, and some even stranger words.

Good luck, guys, you're doing something different and infinitely more appealing than the majority of the cannon fodder on the airwaves today.

P.S. The hidden tracks are the best.
