Review by Darren Gawle

Bonafly are a good example of what happens when a band decides to release recorded material before they're really ready for it. What am I talking about? Well, I'm not going to question Bonafly's instrumental competence, but it doesn't appear that they've been around long enough to really develop as songwriters. Throwing a bunch of (hopefully) cool riffs together with whatever lyrics are lying around (example: a chorus that repeats "Rocket to my guitar star!" a few times) isn't enough.

The four songs on The Cat is Poo are... well, they're just there. This is run-of-the-mill guitar rock with vague funk sensibilities that really doesn't have any hooks or memorable vocal melodies. Not that this condemns Bonafly for posterity, but you can be sure than in a year or two they'll have progressed enough as songwriters to do a much better job than this. Until that time, though, Bonafly could stand to take a more critical approach to their music before deciding to record it. Remember, patience is a virtue.
