Bouncy, cute and warm 'n fuzzy all over pop music for the wounded inner child in all of us. A little too cute, maybe -- though, really, Space Kid have got some rocking bits -- but mostly it's all very, very... nice, with a healthy dollop of Sloan and a pinch of Pixies. Songs about toys, friends, friends' bands, and bad hair. All very nice and very cute with a dash of fuzzo-effects pedal noise for the chorus. Man, I really want to like these guys, but this disc is just so cute and friendly -- which is fine -- and it just doesn't grab me.

Something about this disc makes me want to scream "NNNERRRRDSSS!!!" and kick sand in people's faces. The whispery-nice vocals get grating after a while, like a Care Bears cartoon. You don't have scream like Iggy on Raw Power to get yourself across, but what kind of emotions do constant hushed whispers evoke? Not many. It's well done and competent, but Cereal isn't particularly engaging.
