Review by Paul Watkin
This is a happy record.
If the Partridge Family wanted to be a 90's Brit-pop band with some white funky wanky guitars, this would be their dream. Don't laugh, I heard the tambourines throughout the CD! I don't say this in a bad light. Hey, it's only a label. Somebody else will have a different one. That doesn't matter.
What does matter is that in choosing their style, Velour3 forgot to give it their own edge. For me, though the songs are cool enough -- how many bands do you know that would write a song about Quicki-Mart swinger Apu Nahasapeemapetilon?? -- but the band just doesn't reach out far enough and grab that extra spark. Maybe all that TV has dulled their senses.
So if you want a happy record with some funky white guitars, go buy this disc. If you don't like this style of music, don't buy it. If you think CD reviewers are full-of-shit label jockeys, you won't get a big argument from me, and you'll have to go buy it and judge for yourself. You should go and support them anyway, as they're from Vancouver -- I know because they sing of a shining sun and only in Vancouver do the people truly rejoice when the sky is blue.
Now if only Velour3 had rejoiced a little harder on the disc...
