Review by Rodney Gitzel
It's not often I hear a song on commercial radio
(CFOX, in this case) that surprises me, that makes me go "Wow!"
Local H's single "Bound for the Floor" did just that.
Its staccato, heavily gated groove quickly punched its
way into my head and the song infected my brain for days on end. Cool.
Unfortunately, the album doesn't live up to the single. There is one other stand-out song, the -- again -- punchy "High-Fiving MF" (the song which no doubt prompted the "Yeah Mom... the F word's on this record" label on the cover), but the rest of the disc consists only of competent, but unremarkable, contributions to the current neo-grunge movement being led by Bush X.
Still, those two songs may be worth the price of the disc itself. And, if nothing else, "Bound for the Floor" will probably prompt the sale of a lot of noise gate guitar pedals...
