Review by Darren Kerr

45-second excerpt from "The Crucible" (various formats)

It started, I guess, around five years ago. Bands that had hung their hat on a cock-rock-grunge hook suddenly reinvented themselves as aggro-industro-distorto metal core. Mysteriously, influences changed from Mother Love Bone, Sweet and KISS to Ministry, Einsturzende Neubaten and Can.

Face of Fear don't fall into this category. Their social conscience and sincere anger have probably been fueled at many different service stations like Big Black, Rapeman and the Dischord label, and probably New York stuff like Cro Mags, and S.O.I.A. All these stimuli combine to form a sound that is angry, heavy and flush with good solid grind-metal tempo changes. Decent stuff for when you want to lash out at the world, or for when you want something loud, driving and thought-provoking.
