Review by Darren Gawle
Sing Sing Dead Man are apparently more than a little enamoured
of the Smiths and the Cure,
otherwise they'd probably be out there
thrashing around with those arrhythmic post-punk bands that only
Vancouver seems capable of producing. Maybe they make sense as
a little something to tide you over during the two-year waits
between Morrissey and Cure albums, but ultimately the best band
that ever sounded like the Smiths was... well, the Smiths. And
what little room that is left seems to be ably occupied at the
moment by Gene, thank you very much.
All This Could Be Yours is a collection of songs which sound like Morrissey singing for the Cure (except for "Mango," which somehow sounds like Morrissey singing for Van Halen). And, as tunes, they’d really be pretty good if only there was something about them to distract your attention from how much like (well, you know...) they sound. Sing Sing Dead Man certainly have talent, but this talent would shine through a lot better if they could show that they have a personality of their own.
