Crescent Moon

CD Cover Firestar
Independent

Review by Darren Gawle

Not quite the harp-and-flute combination I remember from the theme song to The Friendly Giant, Crescent Moon is the brainchild of Firestar, denizen of new age cafés, wedding performances and the occasional healing seminar [ed. Healing seminar?]. The CD certainly made for some odd background music while I was reading up on S.S. atrocities in Russia during World War 2 [ed. -- HEALING SEMINAR?!?], so maybe it's better suited to those discussions over tea about the merits of the I Ching as opposed to the Tarot. Samples of wildlife such as humpback whales and seagulls abound, but why "Harmonic Vibrations" features the sound of someone cooking bacon in a deep-fryer is beyond me.

(Fun Fact: Firestar's bio notes that her dad conducted the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra until 1974, so chances are good that he was involved with Procol Harum's Conquistador session.)
