Review by Daniel Ewacha

38-second excerpt from "Head of Jesus" (various formats)

Heat, the second release from Vancouver's Evil Roy Slade, could be described as the second coming of Pearl Jam. Or Soundgarden. Or Alice in Chains. It's no secret that this six-song EP is heavily influenced by the aforementioned bands and by the whole Seattle scene altogether, but to simply compare Evil Roy Slade to Pearl Jam, et cetera, instead of treating them as equals, would be to cheat the band out of the respect and recognition they fully deserve. The songs off Heat -- particularly "Head of Jesus," "Burr Salad" and "Stop Thinking" -- rival those of any of those bands. No shit!

This disc should make not only Evil Roy Slade, but every music lover in Vancouver, proud. And don't just take my word for it. Go pick up the disc and experience a heat wave unlike any you've experienced before.
