Review by Darren Kerr
I guess it was just a matter of time before Canada
found its answer to Primus, albeit one in wild monkey love with
math rock, and happily The Brown Bomber is a much better
album than Primus' Brown Album.
This is a concept album -- though about what, I don't know -- and it requires an investment
of time and listening to truly grasp what is going on.
Words come at you like machine gun bullets in the Die Hard trilogy. Meanwhile, bassist Shawn Savoie and drummer Mark Frasier build a foundation of funky fractured grooves, with those weird tempo changes and time signatures that you love so much. Guitarist Jason Joly, meanwhile, runs the gamut of guitar textures, straight distortion one minute and heavily-effected electronic fuzz the next.
This is prog rock for people who love strange characters and lots of words.
